The issuing of post office boxes for rental to customers

Rental fee for Post Box is payable annually, in advance, on July 1. A deposit of ninety dollars ($90.00) is required which is refundable upon relinquishment of box and presentation of the original receipt.

Non-nationals are required to provide proof of residence (copy of certificate of title, work permit, certificate of registration in case of businesses).

How do I apply for a post office box?

  • Come in to the Administrative Section of the General Post Office to request and complete an application form.
  • The person has to being in a passport size photo and a valid ID.

The fees are as follows:

Annual rental: Small (inside) $70.00
Small (outside) $85.00
Medium $125.00
Large $150.00
Deposit $90.00

Collecting of Registered Letters

The process involved in obtaining a registered letter:

  • A slip is issued by the Registration Clerk bearing the name and address of the customer.
  • Upon arrival by the customer to collect the letter, the Registration Clerk requests identification from the customer.
  • After being satisfied by the ID provided, the customer is asked to sign the pink slip and the corresponding page on the Notice for Registered Article book.
  • The system is then updated to show the name of the customer who received the registered mail, the date, the time and the place.
  • The registered letter is then issued to the customer.
  • Finally, the registered slip is kept by the Registration Clerk to account for mail delivered.

Posting a letter

  • The letter to be posted is brought to the Stamp Vendor.
  • Depending on the destination and weight of the letter, a stamp is issued.
  • The stamp is to be placed on the top right hand corner of the letter.
  • The letter is then dropped in the airmail or inland box based on its destination.

Posting a Registered Letter

If the mail is to be registered, an extra fee of five dollars ($5.00) is to be paid in addition to the posting fee.

  • The letter to be posted is brought to the Stamp Vendor.
  • Depending on the destination and weight of the letter, a stamp is issued.
  • The stamp is to be placed on the top right hand corner of the letter.
  • The Stamp Vendor registers the mail and a certificate of posting with a tracking number is issued to the customer.
  • The letter is then kept by the stamp vendor for further processing.

The posting of an Express Mail package

  • The package or documents for posting is brought to the Main Cashier.
  • The package is weighed to determine the price.
  • It is then placed in an Express Mail envelope and sealed.
  • A form is filled out by the customer indicating whether the package to be sent out is documents or merchandise, the receiver and the sender and the total cost of the package.

Express Mail Service (EMS) - This is a special international postal service where documents and merchandise enjoy the preferential treatment of post, customs and airline companies.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is the EMS Cooperative member of United States, and is in charge of delivering EMS packages inside the United States.

Online tracking for EMS sent to and from the United States is available by simply assessing the USPS website (usps.com) and when prompted enter your tracking number. Real-time details of your shipment will be displayed.

A valid EMS tracking number consists of thirteen (13) characters. First two and last two characters are alphabets.

The sending out and changing of money orders

When a customer comes to change a money order:

  • The rate for the day is established.
  • The customer signs the money order along with the presentation of a proper identification.
  • The customer is paid the equivalent to the money order and the money order is kept by the Main Cashier.

When a customer comes to purchase a money order:

  • The money order form is filled out by the Main Cashier.
  • The rate is determined along with the commission.
  • The customer pays the required amount.
  • The Money order is handed to the customer.
