As the hurricane season approaches, Colihaut residents can feel safer due to the near completion of a $1.5 million river defense wall.
This project is part of the Government of Dominica's efforts to invest in resilient infrastructure and build the world's first climate-resilient nation. The defense wall aims to protect lives and property in the Colihaut community, which has suffered devastation from past hurricanes.
MP Lady Catherine Daniel thanked the local workers who contributed to the project, emphasizing their vested interest in its completion. The investment has had a positive impact on the local economy, and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has been credited for ensuring the project's realization. Contractor Monison Roudette, who employed ten locals, stressed the wall's importance for residents' protection and added a step to the design for easier access to the river.
